We are dedicated to opening our doors and are proud to announce that we are getting closer to our tipping point.  The Board and Advisory Council have been working diligently on fundraising (half way to our annual operating budget goal), building our volunteer driver list (now up to 30!), spreading the word to the public (churches, civic organizations, living communities, etc.) and getting our operations ready.

We are proud to announce that we are now the official 28th affiliate of iTNAmerica…the first affiliate in the state of Georgia! Learn more about what “being an affiliate” means in this newsletter and what our next steps are.  WE NEED YOU!  Please join us in serving our older population to help them remain active, healthy and independent by donating to this new non-profit. Your donation is tax deductible and will make a difference in our community. Or call us at 678-696-0360 and volunteer to drive.

Thanks to those who have contributed to this effort to date and special thanks to our major donors and the 23 members of the Board of Directors and Advisory Council who have donated countless volunteer hours and funds to get us to this point.

One Member Shares His Story
Why Senior Transportation Is So Valuable

Recently, a member with ITNMontgomery County needed transportation service for only a couple of months while he recovered from open-heart surgery. Robert needed a driver three times a week for his cardiac rehab appointments. Though this was a temporary situation, he was moved by how much it affected him.

His volunteer driver, Deborah, runs a produce market through a local church. She picked up Robert one Wednesday and offered to take him by the market on the way back to his house. That afternoon he called, elated with his new discovery, and wanted to make sure that every Wednesday his driver could take him back to the market to shop and visit with Deborah.

The next Wednesday, they scheduled him with Bob, one of their shining volunteers. In the short trip after the produce market, Robert and Bob discovered they shared a common interest in restoring old cars. Five minutes later, they were in Robert’s garage devising a plan of action for one of his projects. They have since become friends and are able to stay connected because their garages are within walking distance of one another.

A couple of weeks ago, Robert called after one of his appointments and he gave the wonderful news that he had been cleared for driving. Then, he got choked up and said, "This has been such a wonderful service. It relieved me of so much worry... It has filled a hole in my life. I never expected to make new friends and I plan on taking myself to the produce market every Wednesday from now on."  Robert was so grateful and he wanted to give back so he asked if he could donate the balance of his Personal Transportation Account back to ITN.

What a great example of the potential we have to serve our older adults with iTNLanier!  Whether short term or long term transportation, iTNLanier can help those in need lead a more meaningful life.

We Need Your Help: Year End Donations
Please consider contributing to iTNLanier, Hall County’s newest senior transportation program.

We have 30 drivers and over 50 riders. We receive frequent phone calls and emails from people who need our service. The Board has adopted a conservative business plan that requires 100% of our first-year budget in the bank or pledged before we can open our doors in 2016. We are over 50% there!  To make this happen we need to raise $60,000 in gifts and pledges by January 1st. We are asking you to join us in this important new program for Hall County seniors who can no longer drive. Please take the time now to make a donation and help us open our doors.

TO DONATE:  Go online at www.ngcf.org to donate by choosing “other” in the drop down menu & typing “ITNLanier.”  Or you may mail your tax deductible donation to the North Georgia Community Foundation (checks made out to NGCF, designate to iTNLanier) at the following address:
615F Oak Street, Suite 1300, Gainesville, GA 30501
